The SBMA Board of Directors was finally able to make a decision last January 22, 2010 on the revisions regarding the Certificate of Ownership of Leasehold Rights. Attached is the letter that we received from SBMA late yesterday responding to the opposition letter that the Chamber submitted last September 24, 2009 (please visit our Online Forum for complete information about the COLR).

The Chamber Board of Directors is currently in the process of reviewing the changes. We still see some problems but overall, we consider this a big win for the Chamber as we thank SBMA for keeping an open mind. The gist of it is that the registration of a property to the Registration Office is still mandatory (deadline is July 4, 2010) but at a very minimal fee of P200.00 (about $4.35) while the COLR itself is now totally voluntary.

Still confused by SBMA's Ownership of Leasehold Rights, though. What a contradiction of terms! Ownership of something you are renting? WTF?
