Olongapo City Sanggunian commended outgoing city councilor Edwin J. Piano for his invaluable contributions to the city. Here's the resolution:
RESOLUTION NO. 56

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING OUTGOING CITY COUNCILOR EDWIN J. PIANO FOR HIS INVALUABLE CONTRIBUTIONS AS A PUBLIC OFFICIAL AND A THREE-TERMER CITY COUNCILOR FOR CY 2001-2010
WHEREAS, Councilor Edwin J. Piano, a former OFW, Ship Repair Facility and USN Public Works Center employee and one of the thousands of volunteers who protected and preserved the former Subic Naval Base which led to the creation of Subic Bay Freeport, was first elected city councilor in 2001;
WHEREAS, his career can be described as a career characterized by hard work, legislative savvy and selfless dedication to public service. It is a shining example of how a Councilor’s innovativeness and practical skills can be successfully parlayed into the concrete enhancement of the lives of his constituents and the progress of his community and country;
WHEREAS, believing that a councilor’s duties to the people go beyond mere legislative work, Councilor Piano voluntarily assumed other responsibilities that have a direct impact on the welfare of the community. He formally organized and led thousands of volunteers in rendering a wide range of community services. He set up and now heads the Olongapo Skills Development and Employment Center, while he is one of the pillars of the Subic Bay Information Technology Council. Councilor Piano is also very active in the development of the youth where he is in the executive board of scouting movement in Olongapo City and the most senior member of the community college’s board of trustees;
WHEREAS, his greatest accomplishment is his effective use of his legislative sagacity and skills in crafting timely and necessary laws that respond to the needs of the community where he holds the most number of legislations passed; and his willingness to work even beyond the confines of the legislative halls, without any compensation, to make sure that these laws make their intended positive impact on the lives of the people;
WHEREAS, Councilor Piano significantly contributed in the winning of Olongapo Sanggunian as first runner-up in the Department of the Interior and Local Government Search for the Most Outstanding Sangguniang and the winning of Olongapo Skills Training Center in the TESDA Kabalikat Award;
WHEREAS, with his three-term of meritorious service, City Councilor Edwin J. Piano has shown unselfish dedication and invaluable performance that led to being awarded The Outstanding Councilor of the Philippines (TOCP) given by the Philippine Councilors League (PCL) in partnership with the Junior Chamber International (JCI) and the office of Senator Edgardo J. Angara;
NOW, THEREFORE, with the unanimous accord of the Members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod present;
RESOLVED, AS IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED, by the Sangguniang Panlungsod in session assembled, to commend, as it hereby commends outgoing City Councilor Edwin J. Piano for his invaluable contributions as a public official and a three-termer City Councilor for CY 2001-2010.
