THE SBMA and CDC plans to use Global Positioning Satellite to track blue-plated vehicles, which enter Subic tax-exempt and are meant to be used only within the free ports. These vehicles can only be used outside the free ports for 14 days and must then return back.

During a recent meeting between SCAD, SBMA, and locators, the cost of the GPS tracking would be shouldered by owners of the vehicles at a fee of around P900.00 per month.

Prof. Danny Piano argued that forcing owners to be tracked by satellite is tantamount to invasion of privacy. That while the system would have merit especially for companies who have fleets of vehicles and want them tracked, this should still be voluntary and not mandatory. Further, that since the ultimate intention is to track whether blue-plated vehicles are outside or inside the Freeport, that RFID scanners at the gates would server the purpose better and at negligible cost to locators.

I agree. The question is why is this not apparent to the government.

Hmmm, not working, guards and conduction passes, I see. But not necessarily the right one, an expensive solution is.
